State DOH updates City of Wheeling on future of Suspension Bridge

WHEELING, W.Va. –City of Wheeling officials received an update Wednesday from the state Division of Highways on the future of the Wheeling Suspension Bridge.
According to a DOH release, the bridge closed to vehicular traffic in 2019, after an overweight tour bus crossed the span in defiance of weight restrictions and permanently damaged the structure.

Lewis County woman charged after allegedly stabbing husband

LEWIS COUNTY, W.Va. –A Lewis County woman is in custody after she allegedly stabbed her husband Tuesday.

Amanda Brown, 38, of Orlando, has been charged with malicious wounding.
According to a release, Troopers with the Weston Detachment of the WVSP, Troopers from the Sutton Detachment, and deputies with the Braxton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported stabbing in the Orlando area around 2 p.m.

Baylous to retire as U.S. Marshal for Southern District of West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia Michael T. Baylous announced Wednesday afternoon he intends to retire from the position.

House passes Recharge West Virginia Act

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The House of Delegates passed a bill Wednesday that would create a program to help small business owners pay for upskill training for their workers.

House Bill 4004 is called the Recharge West Virginia Act where businesses could apply for reimbursement of $10,000 for qualifying employee with a limit of $50,000 a year.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Both WVU and Marshall University officials told state lawmakers Wednesday they still have millions of dollars of deferred maintenance on their campuses.

Delegates are considering legislation designed to assist students with foster care backgrounds.
West Virginia has 5,915 child welfare placements, according to the state’s child welfare data dashboard.
House Bill 4573 seeks to ensure young and vulnerable people moving into adulthood are made aware of the available support framework to successfully navigate their post-secondary lives.

WVU Medicine Jackson General to get a Safe Haven Baby Box

RIPLEY, W.Va. — The Jackson County Commission and WVU Hospitals Jackson General have reached an agreement to install a device at the hospital aimed at saving infants in dire situations.
It’s called the Safe Haven Baby Box, which was created by a company in Indiana.
