Warm, windy day could cause problems

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for parts of West Virginia Wednesday.

The areas east of the Allegheny Mountains to the Shenandoah Valley including the Eastern Panhandle are under they warning. The Potomac Highlands is also listed.
“Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended,” the NWS warning said.

Marshall blanks Central Florida 2-0 in regular season finale

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall got two early goals from Carl Romberg and the Thundering Herd’s back line helped keep Central Florida off the board to chalk up a 2-0 win Tuesday night in the Sun Belt Conference regular-season finale at Hoops Family Field/Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
The No. 17 Thundering Herd ends the regular season 6-2-1 in Sun Belt play for 19 points. That gives Marshall the No. 3 seed in the SBC Tournament that begins Sunday with two games at top seed

Settlement negotiations underway in Hope Gs

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Public Service Commission has granted the attorneys negotiating the Hope Gas rate increase an extension to reach a settlement in the case.

The proposed increase would be an estimated 25% increase for current residential customers and a 35% increase for former Peoples Gas customers. The increase for Hope Gas residential customers would be about $21 monthly, while the increase for Peoples Gas customers would be about $27.

Thousands of manufacturing jobs needed in WV according to Marshall survey

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A recent study with in-state manufacturers shows that there are opportunities waiting for new workers.
The study, which was conducted by the Marshall University Advanced Manufacturing Center, got respondents from 83 different manufacturers across West Virginia. The manufacturers said that they need an additional 2,700 full-time workers over the next 12 months and nearly 7,000 over the next three years.

Man injured in side-by-side accident in Kanawha County

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. –A man was airlifted from a side-by-side accident Tuesday afternoon in Kanawha County.
The incident occurred near Hogpen Road in Belle. Sergeant Burns with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said a 78-year old man was thrown from a side-by-side and it’s believed he has suffered internal bleeding and a laceration to the head.
They had to shut down Route 60 near Simmons Creek in order to make room for a helicopter but are currently back open.

Cheney made several visits to West Virginia mostly for political functions

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Over the course of time, the late Dick Cheney made several trips to West Virginia. Most of those visits were on behalf of Republican candidates seeking higher office. He visited Charleston in 2002, 2003, and 2004 for fundraising events for then West Virginia Second District Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito.
