Two public officials reprimanded by Ethics Commission

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Ethics Commission has ordered public reprimands on a pair of public officials.
The commission announced Friday that Reedy Mayor Richard Martin is being reprimanded, fined $1,000 and ordered to undergo Ethics Act training for what he did with city money.

State health officials say Whooping Cough cases show biggest increase in 15 years

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Bureau of Public Health has identified an increase in pertussis, whooping cough, cases.
The bureau has issued a public health alert.
There have been 126 cases across the state this year. Public Health said the state hasn’t seen that kind of increase in 15 years.
Cases have been identified statewide, with the highest concentration in the western region of the state.
Eighteen percent of the overall cases involving infants. There have been 28 people hospitalized.

Early snow in forecast for end of weekend, Monday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia is going to get an early taste of winter weather a the weekend ends and the work week begins.
But first—-a quick moving cold front will bring showers and the chance for thunderstorms beginning Friday evening.
“It’s going to be a round of showers and thunderstorms moving through the entire state associated with a cold front,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Simone Lewis told MetroNews.

WVU BOG says Baker can take next step with West Tower project planned for football stadium

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The WVU Board of Governors approved plans Friday for premium seating at Hope Coliseum and also gave Athletics Director Wren Baker the go-ahead to take the next step in the West Tower/Press Box project at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Coal miner killed in Tucker County

DAVIS, W.Va. — A coal miner died in Tucker County Thursday.
The accident occurred at the Mountain View Mine near Davis.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey identified the victim in a Facebook post as Joey Mitchell Jr.

Raleigh County woman completes a five year quest for her buck

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Reva Davis of Raleigh County has been watching one certain buck for the past five years. This year however, he had drawn a lot more attention and she knew the time had come to make him hers.

Roane County BOE voted Thursday to close Geary, Walton Elementary/Middle School

ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. –The Roane County Board of Education voted Thursday night to close two of their elementary/middle schools and consolidate their students into nearby schools.
