Mt. Olive Correctional Complex inmate receives life sentence for first-degree murder

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. –An inmate at Mount Olive Correctional Complex in Fayette County was sentenced Tuesday to another life sentence for the murder of an inmate last year.

Paul D. Thompson, 56, plead guilty to the felony offense of first-degree murder and was sentenced during the same hearing by Chief Circuit Judge Thomas Fast to serve life in prison.

State Police trooper credited with rescuing elderly woman, baby from burning Buckhannon residence

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — A state police trooper from the Buckhannon Detachment is being credited in the rescues of an elderly woman and baby from a burning residence.
A state police news release said Trooper C. J. Elmore responded to the home on Kalafat Street in Buckhannon Saturday and was met by a man who told him several people were inside the burning structure.

Senators passed legislation allowing 18- to 20-year-olds carry a concealed weapon without a permit.
The bill passed on a 33-1 vote. The legislation now goes to the House of Delegates, where members have been running a version of the same policy through committee.
