Wood County woman dies in wreck

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Wood County woman is dead after a colission at an intersection of U.S. Route 50.
Wood County deputies ay Ashley Perry, 42, of Parkersburg was killed when her car was struck by an oncoming vehicle as she attempted to make a turn from Murphytown Road onto U.S. Route 50.
The fatal wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. New Years Eve.

WVU Parkersburg professor on AI’s impact on students, teachers

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. –West Virginia University at Parkersburg assistant biology professor Joel Farkas discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on students and faculty during a recent state Higher Education Policy Commission meeting.
Farkas, who also serves as chair of the state Advisory Council of Faculty, delivered a report to the commission on how students are using artificial intelligence in their coursework.

Elkview woman found dead after being reported missing

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. –An Elkview woman who had been reported missing is dead.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, Cynthia Sue Holley, 63, was found dead in Catlettsburg, Kentucky Thursday afternoon. KCSO said that right now no foul play is suspected and her death appears to be self-inflicted.
She was reported missing after she was last seen leaving her house on Ruffner Branch Road around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday.
The investigation is being handled by the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office.

Fayette County authorities investigate Christmas Eve crash

FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. –The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a crash that occurred on Christmas Eve.
According to a release from the Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, a driver lost control while they were traveling on Gatewood Road, outside of Oak Hill. The vehicle left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and then ended up striking a residence causing significant damage.

Margaret Staggers, former delegate and physician, has died

Former state Delegate Margaret Staggers died on New Years Day.
Staggers, a Democrat, served in the House of Delegates from 2006 to 2014 and then from 2018 to 2020, representing communities in Fayette County. During her first go-round, she served as an assistant majority whip.
