Marshall officially cuts women’s swimming and diving program

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Following recent rumors that Marshall University would be cutting women’s swimming and diving, the MU Board of Governors unanimously approved the shutdown of the program on Tuesday. 
The cut comes as this year’s team prepares to compete in the American Conference Championship, which starts Wednesday in Greensboro, N.C.

Senate considers bill that would convert school days to hours

The Senate Education Committee moved ahead with legislation changing school calendar requirements from days or months to hours.

Scott Tinsley, dead at 62, remembered for being ahead of his time as offensive mind

Innovative offensive minds are all the rave in today’s football landscape.
Longtime football fans across West Virginia know Scott Tinsley to be among the first.
Many are now mourning the death of Tinsley after he passed away Tuesday at the age of 62.
“Very tough news. It’s hard to imagine,” said George Washington High School football coach Steve Edwards Jr. “I lost a really good friend.”

Senate Finance approves $8 million for financially distressed schools, but with qualms

Senators advanced an $8 million appropriation for a relief fund meant to provide a safety net for financially distressed schools, although they expressed misgivings about the circumstances.

Senators pass bill increasing penalties for trafficking and smuggling

Senators passed legislation that makes significant expansions to state laws on human trafficking and smuggling.
The bill, which establishes specific criminal penalties for the illegal transport of adults and minors, passed on a 30-2 vote in the state Senate.

Kanawha County Schools extends Potter for 3 years

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Board of Education has approved a three-year contract extension for county school Superintendent Paula Potter.
