MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Maryland man is in custody after he allegedly killed a woman in a Morgantown area motel Sunday.
Monongalia County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at the Morgantown Motel on Smithtown Road Sunday and found a victim suffering from stab wounds. Deputies said the victim was able to identify her attacker as Karol Crosco, 49, of Garrett County, Maryland before she died.
Morgantown police later identified Crosco and detained him for deputies. Investigators

CANAAN VALLEY, W. Va. — Timberline Ski Resort confirmed Sunday evening there was a death at the resort earlier in the day.
“It is with profound sadness that we can confirm the death of a guest at Timberline Mountain on Sunday, January 4th,” the Facebook post said. “We want to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this devastating loss.”
Resort officials said the incident is under investigation and further details would not be shared at this time.

RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. – The year was 1971, and WMOV disc jockey David Hoyt had a brewing phenomenon on his hands.
As a 15-year-old DJ at the radio station in Ravenswood, Hoyt set into motion a pop culture tidal wave that not only overtook West Virginia but also the rest of the country and, eventually, the world.
That year, he became the first radio personality to play John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” over the air.
The song, which appeared on Denver’s album, “Poems, Prayers, and Promises,”
Charles Simms was a staple of Lewis County’s basketball program for the better part of the last two decades.
Following 17 seasons and 443 games as head coach of the Minutemen, Simms has called it a career. His retirement from coaching and teaching driver’s education became effective at the end of the 2025 calendar year.
Were it up to Simms, he’d have finished out the season instead of stepping away from the sidelines following a 63-48 New Year’s Eve loss to Greenbrier East in the Chris Johnson
