Justice Department insists Comey indictment was properly approved

Janet Dayle Lytle, 81, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, at the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center in Elkins.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor John Welch officiating.
The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Janet Dayle Lytle.

Three Philip Barbour products garner MEC volleyball laurels

BRIDGEPORT — Three Philip Barbour High School products have earned All-Mountain East Conference volleyball honors.
West Virginia Wesleyan’s Emily Denison and MacKenna Halfin, along with West Virginia State’s Alyssa Hill are listed as honorable mention on the All-MEC team, released Wednesday by the conference.
Denison is a junior, while Halfin a freshman and Hill a senior.
Halfin was selected to the All-MEC Freshman Team as well.
Wesleyan also placed Bhrooke Axe on the first team and Alexis

$50K donated to food banks in Tucker County

PARSONS — The Augusta Family Foundation has donated $50,000 to two separate food bank charities in Tucker County.
The Foundation presented $25,000 each to the Tucker County Family Resource Network and the Blackwater Ministerial Association during a ceremony at the Tucker FRN offices in Parsons.
“Food insecurity is becoming more of a problem in Tucker County and these two organizations are doing incredible work at the local level,” said Katy White, a director with the Augusta Family Foundation.

Man accused of ax attack in Valley Head

VALLEY HEAD – A Fairmont man is facing a felony battery charge after allegedly throwing a hunting axe at a man’s head, and instead hitting his hand.
Shaquille Lee Evans, 32, is charged with malicious battery, a felony. He is currently being held at the North Central Regional Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond set by Randolph County Magistrate Michael Dyer.

Motion to rescind Harman School decision dies for lack of a second

ELKINS – A Randolph County Board of Education member made a motion at Tuesday evening’s BOE meeting to rescind the Oct. 8 vote to close the Harman K-12 School, but the motion died for lack of a second.
After 27 community members spoke during Tuesday night’s meeting urging the board members to rescind the Harman vote, BOE member Ed Daniels made a motion to bring the Harman School situation up for discussion. After several minutes of silence, BOE member Janie Newlon seconded the motion.
