Benny Joe Snyder Sr.

Benny Joe Snyder Sr., 84, a resident of Harman, West Virginia, departed this life Friday evening, May 2, 2025, at the Mountain Living Community at Belington, West Virginia, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. He had been in declining health for the past two months.
The family will receive friends at the United Apostolic Pentecostal Church at Whitmer from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Final Rites will be conducted from the Church, Friday, May 9, 2025, at 1 p.m.

Supreme Court allows Trump ban on transgender troops to take effect

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed President Donald Trump’s administration to enforce a ban on transgender people in the military, while legal challenges proceed.
The court acted in the dispute over a policy that presumptively disqualifies transgender people from military service and could lead to the expulsion of experienced, decorated officers.

Wamsley, Drennen lead Bulldogs past Wildcats

FRANKLIN — Jacob Wamsley allowed just two hits over six innings and Jaxon Drennen hit a two-run homer as Tygarts Valley blanked regional foe Pendleton County, 5-0, on Tuesday.
Wamsley struck out nine and walked four before giving way to Ian Harris, who worked a hitless seventh inning.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the second inning as Austin Gear had an RBI single and Ian Harris scored another on a groundout.
Drennen hit his homer in sixth and Austin Wilson added a run-producing single.

Randolph County teacher, service employee of the year honored

ELKINS — The Randolph County Board of Education recently announced the county’s Teacher and Service Staff Employees of the Year.
Samantha Phipps, who is a World Language teacher at Elkins High School, was selected as the county’s top teacher for this past school year. Brian Paugh, a custodian at Jennings Randolph Elementary School, was recognized as the best service employee in the county.

Wayne Ryan named WVSSAC Executive Director

PARKERSBURG — The WVSSAC Board of Directors announced Tuesday the appointment of Wayne Ryan as its next Executive Director. Ryan will assume the position on July 1, 2025, following the retirement of current Executive Director David Price.

Mill Creek man facing animal cruelty charges

MILL CREEK — A Randolph County man is behind bars and accused of intentionally harming two pets.
Dustin Aaron Currence, 30, of Mill Creek, has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty, both misdemeanors. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $2,500 cash-only bond, set by Magistrate Ben Shepler.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Cpl. S.D. Kyle of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, the officer was dispatched to a home on the Adolph Road on Saturday
