Upshur man accused of making threats against schoolchildren

HODGESVILLE – An Upshur County man faces a felony charge after allegedly making threats against his parents and an Upshur County school’s students on the cross-platform communication app Discord.
Andrew Devon Hitt, 24, is charged with making threats of terrorist acts, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $250,000 10% cash bond.

Lady Tigers stay alive in sectional play

FAIRMONT — Fourth-seed Elkins remained alive in the Class AAA, Region I, Section 2 tournament by outslugging third-seed East Fairmont, 17-12, on Thursday evening.
The Lady Tigers (9-13) will now visit No. 2 Fairmont Senior today in another elimination game.
Top-seed Grafton blanked the Lady Polar Bears, 11-0, on Thursday.
Hailey Riffle, Mady Shreve and Addison Carr each had four safeties for Elkins, which had 23 hits on the night.

Morrisey signs bills, including DEI ban

CHARLESTON — Gov. Patrick Morrisey praised the passage of bills codifying his executive order banning diversity, equity and inclusion programs in state government and education programs; and a bill closing remaining loopholes that allowed for medication gender-affirming care.

Pirates fire Shelton, promote bench coach Don Kelly

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates fired manager Derek Shelton following a rocky opening month to the season that saw Pittsburgh quickly slip into last place in the NL Central.

Four Seasons property sold

ELKINS – The City of Elkins finalized the purchase of the Four Seasons property Thursday morning, city officials announced.
The acquisition was finalized “following confirmation that all former tenants had permanently vacated the premises,” Elkins City Communication Manager Leon Kaye told The Inter-Mountain.
This comes after the property was condemned on April 22 by Elkins City Code Enforcement, due to the water in the building having been turned off on April 15 at the request of the property

First-ever American pope elected

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Cardinal Robert Prevost, a missionary who spent his career ministering in Peru and leads the Vatican’s powerful office of bishops, has been elected the first American pope in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church.
Prevost, 69, took the name Leo XIV.
