Breaking up without breaking him

Dear Annie: I’ve been with my boyfriend for over three years. We met when I was a freshman in high school and he was a sophomore. I fell head over heels right away, and we became official nearly a year later. Over time, I learned about his painful childhood — absent father, a mother who had him young and has since moved away, a hostile sibling and a host of health problems, including scoliosis and arthritis. He can’t afford proper medical care and may one day be confined to a wheelchair. He now

Introducing the ‘Trump doctrine’

President Donald Trump gave an important speech in Riyadh that may come as close to outlining a “Trump doctrine” as we’ll probably see.
It was a direct counterpoint to George W. Bush’s second inaugural address.
The simplistic way to put it is that what liberty was for Bush, money is to Donald Trump.
That’s not quite right, though. The speech had values, they just weren’t typical values — accountable government, human dignity — but simply prosperity and peace. If Bush wanted to spread freedom,

Horoscope

On the final full day of the Venus-ruled season of Taurus, we are reminded that it’s not shallow to tend to appearances. Of course they matter. The visual cues on the surface help us get around, assess situations and figure out what’s expected of us. What is shallow is thinking that appearances matter more than other things, such as what gets done, people’s feelings and what’s exchanged to make the world spin.
ARIES (March 21-April 19). You recognize the emotional intention behind a question.

Conservatives block Trump’s big tax breaks bill

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a massive setback, House Republicans failed Friday to push their big package of tax breaks and spending cuts through the Budget Committee, as a handful of conservatives joined all Democrats in a stunning vote against it.
The hard-right lawmakers are insisting on steeper spending cuts to Medicaid and the Biden-era green energy tax breaks, among other changes, before they will give their support to President Donald Trump’s “beautiful” bill. They warn the tax cuts alone would
