Surplus puts April revenue numbers far above expectations

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –West Virginia has gotten its April revenue numbers back and they show figures well above the month’s projections.
The state collected nearly $643.8 million, which is $136 million above the estimate.
West Virginia is now $237 million ahead of estimate 10 years into the fiscal year.
The state racked up $284.7 million in personal income tax. According to the state, the surplus was a big factor into that number, which was $88 million above estimate.

Marmet Public Library ready to close its doors

MARMET, W.Va. –Assistant Director for Kanawha County Public Libraries Sarah Mitchell says the past month they’ve been focused on continuing library services to the Marmet area as they prepare to close the Marmet Public Library on Friday, May 2nd.
“The main thing we’ve been working on is to make sure that we’re continuing services in that area,” Mitchell said.

Kanawha Charleston Humane Association encouraging more adopters and fosters to help with growing influx

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha Charleston Humane Association says with close to 500 animals currently in their care, they need help with the additional influx of puppies and kittens they typically expect to see come in this time of year.

Peer to peer support training at Charleston Police Department helping officers better cope with trauma

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police officers statistically face the most trauma than anyone else in one lifetime, and now, they too are being given an outlet to help cope with it.
Officers with the Charleston Police Department are currently getting the opportunity to take a 32-hour peer-to-peer training course through the Police Benevolent Foundation, a national organization that provides funding support and education to police officers and departments across the country.

Some AmeriCorps operations in West Virginia hit by DOGE cuts

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Trump administration and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have cut $400 million from the AmeriCorps agency.

The cut eliminates 1,000 programs and terminates 32,000 employees nationwide. The cuts will decimate programs in West Virginia run by AmeriCorps in Marion and Pocahontas counties.
