Victim’s name released in Corridor G fatal crash

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. –The South Charleston Police Department has released the name of the driver who died in a fatal crash on Corridor G in South Charleston Wednesday morning.
Charles Frye, 38, of Branchland was pronounced dead at the scene after the car he was driving slammed into a box truck around 10 a.m. Frye was heading north near Childress Road, when he went across the median and hit the truck head on.
The other driver suffered from serious injuries and is in the hospital.

CAMC CFO Jeff Sandene chosen to lead Vandalia Health

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Jeff Sandene, the current Chief Financial Officer for Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) will be taking the reins of the Vandalia Health system next year.
“It’s a great honor and I’m very excited, but at the same time I’m very humbled to be able to lead the organization after Dave Ramsey. Dave has been a great mentor for me,” Sandene told MetroNews.

Hodge sees little value in preseason poll as Mountaineers prepare to welcome Maryland for closed scrimmage

Moore Capito sworn in as US Attorney for the Southern District

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –United States Attorney Moore Capito is officially the chief law enforcement officer for the Southern District of West Virginia.
Capito was sworn in into the position last week by the Honorable Chief United States District Judge Frank Volk.
He was nominated for the position by President Donald Trump in June and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7.

Students from around the state show off STEM skills at annual pumpkin drop

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Middle and high school students flocked to GoMart Ballpark in Charleston Thursday morning and watched their pumpkins fall 50 feet from the sky to the ground below.
Students who attend the annual Capital City Pumpkin Drop put on by Bridge Valley Community and Technology College are tasked with building an enclosure from recycled materials that would save their pumpkins from busting open after the fall.

Capito wants bill to open government and then negotiations on ACA subsidies

The U.S. Senate failed to advance a bill to extend government funding and end the shutdown for a 10th time. That marks the 16th day of a shutdown that continues to drag on. 
The vote was 51 to 45, falling short of the 60 votes needed to advance past filibuster rules and move forward.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Diore Hubbard’s had a lot of challenges to sort through in two seasons at West Virginia.

Raleigh County judge orders class action of current and future religious challenges to vaccine law

The circuit judge overseeing a case in Raleigh County about religious exemptions to mandatory school vaccinations has filed a written order to certify a class action that would affect similar cases in other counties.

Kanawha County murder trial moving forward more than four years after initial charges

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A trial is set to move forward in a Kanawha County murder case that has stretched for more than four years.
Michael Smith appeared before Kanawha County Circuit Judge Kenneth Ballard on Thursday for a motions hearing ahead of his October 27 trial for the 2021 murder of Cheyenne Johnson. Smith is charged with first-degree murder, concealment of a dead body, and using a firearm during a felony.
