A century of celebrating agriculture in West Virginia

FAIRLEA, W.Va. — One of the most beloved and anticipated events every year in West Virginia will celebrate the century mark over the next 10 days. The State Fair of West Virginia will open on the fairgrounds in Greenbrier County Thursday morning. Chances are pretty good you’ll see state Agriculture Commissioner Kent Leonhardt somewhere on the fairgrounds over the course of the event.

Hearing set for WVU students suing NCAA for extended athletic eligibility

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 19 in the case of four West Virginia University students who filed suit against the NCAA last week to have their athletic eligibility extended so that they can play football for the Mountaineers during the 2025 season.

WVU chooses new vice president of enrollment management

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University President Michael T. Benson has filled a key spot on his leadership team.
Benson announced Wednesday the hiring of Fabrizio D’Aloisio as the new vice president for enrollment management at WVU.

D’Aloisio comes to Morgantown from the University of Tennessee.

As soda waiver is approved, request to expand SNAP to hot foods purchases remains on a warmer

West Virginia’s waiver application for what’s eligible for food stamp purchases was two-pronged at first: eliminate eligibility for sugary drinks like soda but broaden use for foods considered hot, healthy and ready-made.

Monongalia County commissioners open new recycling drop-off site

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Monongalia County Commission has announced the move of the county’s recycling facility.

Beginning around 11 a.m. Wednesday the current recycling drop-off site at Westover City Hall will close, and county workers will begin moving bins to the new site at the Morgantown Industrial Park, according to Commissioner Tom Bloom. Security has been added to prevent residents from trying to access the site after business hours.

U.S. Marshals warn residents of jury duty phone scam

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The U.S. Marshals Service is warning the public about a recent involving people impersonating law enforcement officials.
Residents have reported receiving calls from people identifying themselves as members of the U.S. Marshals Service or other agencies attempting to collect a fine for not reporting for jury duty or other court-related matters.
The residents are told if they do pay over the phone all charges would be dropped.

Shawnee Sports Complex set to open welcome center Thursday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One of the largest facilities in the Charleston area is set to take on a new look with ribbon cutting of the Shawnee Sports Complex Welcome and Tourism Center on Thursday.
The new building is the latest expansion to the complex which has helped generate more than $150 million is economic impact since it opened in 2018.

Tug Valley strives to build from best season in program history
