Adjutant general tells delegates that Beckstrom, Wolfe received federal support after shootings

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe have been supported by federal financial programs after they were shot while on duty in Washington, D.C., the state’s adjutant general told state lawmakers.
Beckstrom, 20, and Wolfe, 24, were shot Nov. 26 while on duty in Washington, D.C. Beckstrom died on Thanksgiving Day, and Wolfe continues to recover from serious injuries.

CAMC’s Capital City hospitals now transitioned to Vandalia Health identity

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There’s a new look outside the CAMC hospitals in Charleston.
New signage with the Vandalia Heath logo has been installed outside of CAMC General, CAMC Memorial, and CAMC Women and Children’s Hospitals.
CAMC and Mon Health officially merged in 2022 to create Vandalia Health.
A release from Vandalia said this is the first round of identity change to come.

State Police leader updates lawmakers on agreement with ICE

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police Maj. Jim Mitchell stood before legislators Monday for a budget hearing and faced questions on the partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In August, Governor Patrick Morrisey signed a Memorandum of Agreement with ICE on the 287-G programs, which trained law enforcement, military, and corrections leaders assist ICE with identifying and removing illegal aliens found in the state.

MELLVILLE, W.Va. — Today marks 20 years since a high profile mining accident claimed two lives in Logan County.
An underground fire on the mine’s conveyer belt broke out on the night of January 19th at Massey Energy subsidiary Aracoma Coal Company’s Alma #1 mine in Logan County. Arctic front will bring extremely cold air into W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –– All of West Virginia will be in a deep freeze for the next 24 hours and beyond. An Arctic front is pushing into West Virginia and will cause temperatures this evening and overnight to plunge.

House votes for $8 million emergency fund for distressed county school boards

West Virginia delegates swiftly moved bills to establish an emergency fund for distressed county school boards while appropriating $8 million, in response to a fiscal crisis in Hancock County.
The full House of Delegates suspended rules and overwhelmingly passed the bills out. The emergency fund could be used for any county defined as financially distressed, but officials said Hancock is the only one known to be eligible right now.
