Not guilty verdict ruled for man charged for Morgantown house explosion that killed WVU student

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Georgia man who was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the Morgantown home explosion that killed former West Virginia University student Carly Grozier was found not guilty Wednesday in Monongalia County Magistrate Court.
The verdict was announced late Wednesday afternoon in the case of John Bland.
Bland was working on a shower at the residence located at 727 Wells Street in September 2023. Prosecutors alleged his poor work sparked the explosion that killed Grozier.

State reports encouraging test scores

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Education reports that students are continuing to improve with assessments.
Results from the 2024-2025 student assessments were presented during Wednesday’s monthly meeting for the state Board of Education, and they showed 48 of the 55 counties improving in math. 26 of those 48 counties met or exceeded annual growth targets from the WVDE.

West Virginia Academy opens for new year, looking to 2027 move

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Classes at the first brick-and-mortar charter school in the state, the Morgantown-based West Virginia Academy, are underway.
