PSC issues siting certificate for Mingo County solar project

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Public Service Commission granting a siting certificate Wednesday for a solar energy plant in Southern West Virginia.
The grant was made to Twisted Gun Solar, LLC, and Twisted Gun BESS, LLC. The PSC stated there was no need for a hearing because the plant will have no rate impact on West Virginia residents.
The decision comes after the New York based pair filed to operate a 140-megawatt solar generating plant in Mingo and Logan counties in October 2025.

DMV warns residents of text scams demanding payment

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –The state Division of Motor Vehicles warned residents Wednesday of text scams claiming to be DMV personnel and demanding payment.
A release from the DMV stated scammers can use several different tactics including:
-Setting urgent deadlines
-Using language, logos, or images similar to DMV content
-Using texts to request money
-Playing on fear
The DMV reminds citizens they would never request payment via text, will let you know of DMV deadlines, and will never seek to make the

Senators battle over what Bible should be available in classrooms

Senators argued over what kind of Bible should be made available to fourth, eighth and 10th grade social studies classrooms.
Senate Bill 388 would make the Aitken Bible available to classrooms for those age levels, with private donations being used to obtain them. Organizations like one called “The First American Bible Project” make such donations.

McCuskey wants to use $2 million to beef up Solicitor General’s staff

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Attorney General J.B. McCuskey says his office spent about $400,000 last year in the hiring of outside attorneys to help the state on big lawsuits. Now he’s asking the legislature to allow him to double his solicitor general’s staff to cut down on those outside costs.

Morgantown man sentenced to 25 years in 2022 killing

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The man convicted in the November 2022 murder of a Fairmont resident will serve 25 years in prison.

Chance Williams, 26, of Morgantown, was sentenced Wednesday after being convicted last year of second-degree murder.
Williams stabbed and killed Jamey Corbin, 47, and then staged a traffic crash at the intersection of Green Bag Road and Luckey Lane jus outside of Morgantown.

Pennsylvania man charged in downtown Morgantown robbery

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Pennsylvania man has been charged in connection with a Morgantown armed robbery.

Morgantown police allege Derrick Perry, 30, of Carmichaels, Penn., entered the CVS in downtown Morgantown Sunday morning at around 9 a.m.
Police said Perry entered the store without shoes and refused assistance offered by employees.
When employees followed him in the store he confronted them with a knife and demanded to get into the register.
