WVU celebrates Class of 2025

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU President Gordon is scheduled to give some remarks at Sunday’s final commencement ceremony on WVU’s commencement weekend.
The ceremonies began at the WVU Coliseum Friday and continued Saturday with three more ceremonies wrapping up with the commencement for the graduates of the John Chambers College of Business and Economics.

This is Gee’s last commencement weekend as WVU president. He retires next month.

Project to rebuild section of I-79 up for bid

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –– The West Virginia Division of Highways is conducting a bid letting for 30 projects on Tuesday.
One of the 30 up for bid is a project to rebuild Interstate 79 “from the ground up” between the Stonewall Resort/Roanoke exit and Jane Lew Road.

Workforce grant on its way help mid-February flood victims

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A $1 million dollar grant is going to support disaster-relief jobs, employment, and training services for West Virginia residents still suffering after the severe storms that hit in mid-February.
The U.S. Department of Labor recently awarded the $1 million to areas across south and central West Virginia that were most affected by the severe storms which began February 15 causing devastating floods, landslides, and mudslides.

Overnight storm brings damages and leaves thousands without power

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Multiple towns and counties are reporting damages, and many are without power as a result from the storms that blew through the region beginning late Friday into early Saturday morning.
The overnight storm brought strong winds, heavy rain, thunder and intense lightning.
Logan and Boone County have made reports of several trees being down. The Cora Volunteer Fire Department reported that one tree had fallen on top of a vehicle in the Lee Subdivision near the Holden Exit.

Man arrested in connection to church arson

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. –A man is in jail after being arrested in connection with a church arson that happened in Cabell County earlier this week.
According to a criminal complaint Richard Lee Hill, 38, was arrested Friday night and has been charged with second-degree arson.
Four separate fires were reported at Brighter Day Ministry Church in the 4000 block of Nine Mile Road in Lesage Wednesday afternoon.

WVU drops back-to-back Big 12 series with 8-5 loss to Kansas

GRANVILLE, W.Va. — A night after claiming the Big 12 regular season championship, the WVU baseball team was unable to shake the struggles of the last two weeks as they fell to Kansas, 8-5 in the middle game of their three-game series.

West Virginia’s overdose deaths plummeted by 43.5% last year, according to early data

Provisional data shows that overdose deaths in West Virginia declined by 43.5% in the last year.
That’s information from the National Center for Health Statistics through the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. The center warns that provisional counts are often incomplete and causes of death may be pending investigation, resulting in an underestimate relative to final counts.

Preparations underway ahead of USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Excitement is building in the City of Charleston as they get ready to once again be host to the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships.
