Investigation underway in connection to shooting in Rainelle

GREENBRIER COUNTY, W.Va. –The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating following a shooting in Rainelle that left one person injured Monday.
According to Sheriff Bart Baker, the incident occurred during a possible domestic dispute between a male and a female. The woman allegedly shot the male.
Baker said the shooter is in custody and there is not threat to the community. The victim is currently being treated at a trauma center.
More information will be released as the investigation

State retirees among those who express concern about proposed PEIA increases

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — About 50 people filed into the Gold Ballroom in the Mountainlair Monday night for the final Public Employees Insurance Agency Finance Board public meeting on proposed health insurance plan changes.

DoHS says federal audit of CPS snapshot of the past not a reflection of the present

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state DoHS and cabinet secretary Alex Mayer responded Monday night to MetroNews concerning a federal audit that highlights a failure to complete required paperwork when abuse and neglect cases are reported.

A long statement from Mayer and the agency said the audit from the Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services should be viewed as “a snapshot of the past, not a reflection of the system in place today.”

Man arrested in connection with a 2020 fatal hit-and-run in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. –A Hedgesville man has been arrested in connection to a December 2020 fatal hit-in-run accident in Berkeley County.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The federal EPA is proposing a new rule to redefine “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) to comply with the 2023 Sackett v. EPA Supreme Court decision and to cut government bureaucracy.

Toddler dead in Berkeley County from gunshot wound, man arrested for child neglect

BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. — A Berkeley County man is facing charges after a young boy died from a gunshot wound.
According to a release from the Berkeley County Sherrif’s Office, deputies responded to a call of a reported shooting on Needmore Road at around 7:30 p.m. last Friday.
Upon arrival, the deputies located a two-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies and crews attempted to save the child, but he later died from his injuries.

Pack wants legislators to prioritize teacher pay increases, HOPE Scholarship in upcoming legislative session

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Treasurer Larry Pack has laid out his priorities for upcoming legislative session, and the top two focuses are related to education.
