Mistrial declared in Marion County motorcycle club murder

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The judge in the murder trail of Pagan Motorcycle Club member Ryan Lane has declared a mistrial.
The jury heard nine days of testimony and began deliberations on Friday before the Labor Day holiday. The jury continued deliberations Tuesday for six hours and was unable to reach a verdict leading to the mistrial ruling.
Lane is the least of six Pagan Motorcycle Club members who were charged in the 2022 shooting death of Henry Silver in the Marion County community of Carolina.

West Virginia’s long-debated compulsory vaccination law – which lawmakers declined to amend with a religious exemption – looks like a political non-starter given the latest MetroNews West Virginia Poll.
Rex Repass, who conducted the survey, asked 400 respondents a simple question: Should states require children in grades K-12 to be vaccinated against highly contagious diseases before entering school?

Supreme Court Justice Tim Armstead remembered and honored during funeral service Tuesday evening

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Family and friends gathered Tuesday evening to honor the late West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Justice Tim Armstead.
A visitation and funeral service were held in the House of Delegates Chamber, where speakers shared memories of Armstead and reflected on the man he was.
Armstead, 60, passed away on August 26 after a battle with cancer.
Chief Justice Bill Wooten was one of the speakers during the funeral.
Wooten said that Armstead was a hard worker driven by his faith.

PSC approves securitization plan for Appalachian Power

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — On Tuesday evening, the Public Service Commission of West Virginia approved Appalachian Power Company’s plan to securitize its assets in order to recover over $2 billion in investments and expenses.
The PSC’s decision will allow the utility to sell bonds and set up a new rate-making method that allows them to collect money from its customers over a longer period of time. This cuts down on the number of surcharges and rate cases.

Huntington looking to build off success from Zach Bryan concert

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Over 40,000 people flocked to Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington Saturday evening for one of, if not the most anticipated concert in the city’s history.
Zach Bryan, a folk/country singer who has totaled over nine billion streams on Spotify in his career, announced he would be coming to Marshall’s football stadium back in March. One of the members of Bryan’s band is a Marshall graduate.

Vehicle fire causing delays on I-64

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A pickup truck that caught on fire Tuesday afternoon has caused major delays in Charleston.
The pickup was reportedly on fire near mile marker 57 on I-64 West in between the Oakwood Road and Montrose Drive exits.
Traffic is currently backed up to the area of the Eugene A. Carter Bridge.
Traffic from the Montrose Drive exit and beyond is moving normally.

One dead following one-vehicle crash in Kanawha County

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. –A person is dead following a one-vehicle crash in Kanawha County on U.S. 60 Tuesday.
The WV DOH said that all current and opposite westbound lanes are closed. The crash occurred near 6719 E. Dupont Avenue.
According to Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office they believe it may have been a medical episode.
No other information was made available.

Body of elderly Putnam County man recovered by search crews

POCA, W.Va. — The body of a missing man has been found in Putnam County.
74-year-old James “Jimbo” Davis was reported missing from his residence on Black Trail Road in Poca on Monday night. His body was located along Heizer Creek Tuesday afternoon.
Reports say Davis suffered from dementia and was partially blind.

Charleston officials believe there is “positive momentum” for future of Town Center Mall space

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Matt Sutton, chief of staff for Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin, says the city is having good conversations with the owner of the Town Center Mall property and what the future will hold for the large space.
