State Supreme Court of Appeals to decide Cabell County election fraud case

CHARLESTON, W.Va – The West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals will make the final decision in an election fraud case that goes back more than three years.
Justices heard oral arguments on Tuesday in the state’s case against Jan Hite King and Kimberly Maynard, two former candidates for the Cabell County Commission accused of conspiring to seek office in a district they did not live in.

Lawmakers told state lacking disaster case managers in long-term recovery efforts

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia is in need of long-term disaster case managers.
Catholic Charities of West Virginia Disaster Services Specialist Lora Pierce told the legislature’s Committee on Flooding Tuesday the state and various groups do a great job helping immediately after natural disasters but the long-term relief piece is currently lacking.

Significant change coming to special teams units with departures of Quinn, Totten

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall’s special teams will underdog significant personnel change in Tony Gibson’s second season as head coach.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Huntington businessman Chris Miller is making another play for political office, announcing his candidacy to replace Mike Woelfel, D-Cabell, as the state senator for West Virginia’s fifth district.

Senate and House leaders want more details about tax cut and pay raise proposals

West Virginia’s Senate president and House speaker want to know more about the governor’s proposals for tax cuts and state employee pay raises.
And Senate President Randy Smith says that chamber’s Republican supermajority has a plan for the session that starts tomorrow, although he indicated that is largely being shaped by committee chairs. Smith’s comments offered few specifics.

DOT Secretary Rumbaugh updates lawmakers on projects, budget

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Department of Transportation Secretary Stephen Todd Rumbaugh gave a presentation on the department’s annual report to state lawmakers Monday afternoon, ahead of the regular 60-day legislative session.
