Jim Justice’s enviable poll numbers

Jim Justice is a generational West Virginia politician, which is ironic since he has spent his career in public office claiming he is not a politician.
The latest edition of the MetroNews West Virginia Poll found that 61 percent of West Virginians view the Republican U.S. Senator favorably. Only 23 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him. His numbers are significantly higher than any other statewide politician.

Documentary explores West Virginia Coal Mine Wars

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –A new documentary produced by WCHS-TV aims to explore the Coal Mine Wars, with a focus on the Battle of Blair Mountain.
The first part of the documentary aired Wednesday night on WCHS Channel 8 and Fox 11. The second part of the documentary airs Thursday at 5:30 p.m. on WCHS Channel 8 and then again at 10:30 p.m. on Fox 11

Lawsuits over vaccine exemptions are popping into more West Virginia counties

A case focused on religious exemptions to school vaccination requirements in Raleigh County has gotten statewide attention, including from the governor.
Now, additional cases in other counties across West Virginia are focused on the same issue.
In Gilmer County, a mother has asked for a preliminary injunction to allow her two children to attend public school based on a religious exemption obtained from the state Department of Health, according to court filings.

New tram to be opened at Pipestem Resort State Park Thursday

PIPESTEM, W.Va. –The new aerial tram at Pipestem Resort State Park is scheduled to officially open on Thursday.
West Virginia State Parks announced that a ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. to celebrate a major milestone in the park’s history. The event will include remarks from state and local leaders, followed by a ribbon-cutting and a ceremonial first ride on the tram into Bluestone Gorge.

Education West Virginia ready to better help educators in the Mountain State

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The work for Education West Virginia has officially begun.
In March, the West Virginia Education Association and American Federation of Teachers-West Virginia announced plans to merge into the new union. The partnership and rebrand was made official on Monday.
Merger discussions took place for roughly three years before an agreement was reached.

Different test awaits Bobcats having to contend with Mountaineers’ tempo

In a season-opening 34-31 loss at Rutgers last Thursday, Ohio’s defense made strides throughout the second half that allowed the Bobcats to rally from a 17-point halftime deficit before falling short.

Over 70 arrested in nearly month-long U.S. Marshals operation

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A successful effort from U.S. Marshal’s in southern West Virginia has taken dozens of felons off the street.
Operation Rolling Waters was conducted from August 5 through August 30. 74 arrests were made during the operation and Marshal’s seized three pounds of methamphetamine, 60 grams of fentanyl and 25 grams of crack cocaine.
According to a Wednesday release from the U.S. Marshals Service, 13 guns were also seized, as well as roughly $12,000 in cash.

Plans unclear for the Morgantown-Monongalia County warming shelter as fall closes in

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — With the official start of fall just weeks away, Morgantown residents are asking city council members about the warming shelter for the 2025-26 season.
