Two men arrested, fentanyl, gun and cash seized in Huntington raid

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Huntington Police say a recent raid of a home led to the arrests of two men and the seizure of drugs, guns, and cash.
The Huntington Violent Crime Drug Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms executed search, and arrest warrants last Friday in the Highlawn neighborhood.
During the search, a man from Detroit, Michigan, and a man from Huntington were taken into federal custody. Investigators found approximately five pounds of fentanyl, 106 grams of crack

Violent fugitive from Indiana apprehended in Nicholas County

NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. — A man wanted in Indiana on attempted murder charges has been caught in West Virginia.
Marvin Starcher (WVRJA)
According to the U.S. Marshals Southern District of West Virginia, Marvin Starcher, 56, of Garrett, Indiana, was apprehended at around 6 p.m. Tuesday on WV Route 16 close to the Nicholas/Fayette County line.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced several recent appointments to his administration.

Wyoming County coal miners receive layoff notices

PINEVILLE, W.Va. — A southern West Virginia coal operator has issued WARN notices to about 200 coal miners in Wyoming County.
Core Natural Resources plans to lay off workers at the Itmann No. 5 Mine and the Itmann Coal Prep Plant by Aug. 1.
Coal companies are required to issue WARN notices 60 days before a layoff.
In a statement provided to MetroNews, Core attributed the layoffs to the market and economic conditions.

Fire season over, but concerns remain

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The spring burning restrictions were lifted as of this past Sunday, but the West Virginia Division of Forestry still urges caution with any outdoor burning.
“Individuals can burn now whenever they choose, but folks are still required to have a 10-foot safety strip around their burn pile and they can only burn natural debris generated from their own property. Body found near Monongalia County construction site

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Construction workers on the site of the new bridge to cross the Monongahela River discovered a body Monday.
Deputies with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department responded to a wooded area between Scott Avenue and Smithtown Road where the body was found.
