Morrisey announces state’s submission of final proposal for broadband expansion funding

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia has submitted its final proposal to the federal government for funding of broadband expansion.

Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced the submission under the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD).
“This is arguably the biggest economic development initiative we’ve seen in West Virginia history,” Morrisey said in a video message. “It has the potential to transform the Mountain State.”

Testimony complete in Charleston teen’s murder trial, jury deliberations delayed until Monday

CHARLESTON, W.Va – A jury is set to decide the fate of Barack Williams, the 15-year-old charged with felony murder in connection with the robbery that left Charleston tobacco store clerk Caden Martin dead.

PSC rulings could mean fewer rate hike requests from Appalachian Power

Teenager injured in Charleston shooting

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A 19-year-old Charleston woman is being treated for a gunshot wound to the back after she was shot late Thursday night on the city’s west side.
Charleston Police said Kayleigha Newhouse told them she was inside her home in the 300 block of Beuhring Ave at just before 11:30 Thursday night when a vehicle pulled up and someone fired several shots at the house. She said one of the shots traveled through a window and struck her in the back.

Detroit man with multiple drug convictions arrested on a warrant in Huntington

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –A Detroit man with an extensive criminal history, including a federal conviction, was arrested Thursday on drug charges in Huntington.
Daniel “Bam” Leggette, 49, was wanted on a warrant for felony delivery of a controlled substance.
According to police, he was arrested after a brief foot chase in the Marcum Terrace neighborhood. That chase led authorities to execute a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Oakland Avenue, where Leggette was living.
