Gov. Morrisey extends New Year’s holiday for state employees

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –West Virginia state employees will be getting the full day off on Friday following New Year’s Day.
Governor Patrick Morrisey issued a proclamation Monday afternoon. The extra day is in addition to the half-day they get on Wednesday, December 31st and the full day on Thursday, January 1st.

Two hospitalized following stabbing incident in Huntington

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –Two people are in the hospital following a stabbing incident in Huntington Monday afternoon.
Police responded to a reported altercation about 3:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lynn Street.
Cabell County dispatchers said that two people were taken to the hospital and confirmed at least one person had been stabbed. The condition of either individual was not immediately known.

West Virginia awarded $199 million for first year of Rural Health Transformation Fund

Governor Patrick Morrisey today announced that West Virginia has secured $199 million the coming year from the federal Rural Health Transformation Fund
The award almost doubled the guaranteed minimum for the first year.
Morrisey said the funding reflects the strength, depth and statewide focus of West Virginia’s plan to modernize rural healthcare delivery and improve outcomes for families and communities.

Bald eagle struck by car near Ripley dies from injuries

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va – A bald eagle has died after being struck by a car on US Route 33 near Ripley.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the bird was hit on Friday and transported to the Avian Conservation Center of Appalachia for assistance.
ACCA posted an update to its Facebook page on Monday, stating that the eagle suffered a badly fractured upper wing bone, spinal trauma, and significant thoracic trauma. The bird was treated with pain medication, anti-inflammatory
