DOJ, WVDEP announce proposed settlement over Antero air emissions violations

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –A proposed settlement between the U.S. Department of Justice, West Virginia’s Department of Environmental Protection, and Antero Resources Corporation resolving alleged Clean Air Act and West Virginia Pollution Control violations that involved the company’s oil and gas production operations in the Mountain State and Ohio was announced Friday afternoon.

Hiker rescued after sliding down ice pack in Pendleton County

SOUTH FORK, W.Va. — A West Virginia hiker is being treated at a Virginia hospital after slipping and falling on an ice-packed trail in Pendleton County Friday.
According to Pendleton County Emergency Management, the woman was hiking on the High Knob Trail on Shenandoah Mountain near the West Virginia-Virginia state line at about 6 p.m. when she slipped on packed ice and slid down steep terrain on the West Virginia side of the mountain.

‘Shooters list’ causes widespread panic at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — An Upshur County student is being held in a juvenilia detention facility after allegedly putting the names of 34 sixth grade students at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School on a “shooters list.”
The juvenile girl was taken into custody by Upshur County sheriff’s deputies Friday morning and the list was AirDropped to the devices and phones of some students waiting in the school gym for classes to start.

Marshall to face Georgia Southern on national TV

Marshall basketball has entered the homestretch of the regular season.
The Herd have a busy schedule for the foreseeable future, and are back in action at 8:30 p.m. Saturday with a nationally-televised contest at Georgia Southern. The clash between the Herd and Eagles will be shown on ESPNU.
It’s a fairly quick turnaround for Marshall (16-9, 8-4 Sun Belt) after the Herd came from behind to win 81-79 at Old Dominion on Wednesday.

Senate passes abortifacients ban bill

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State senators passed a bill Friday that would ban the shipment of abortion pills into West Virginia.
Senate Bill 173 makes the sending or prescribing of “abortifacients” to West Virginians illegal.

School custodian found hiding in girls’ locker room being held on $1.3 million bail

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A now former custodian with Berkeley County Schools faces more than two dozen charges following an incident that occurred Thursday night during a girls’ basketball game at Martinsburg High School.
