Mountaineers figure to learn more in Week 2 matchup at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio — Many of the questions surrounding West Virginia’s 2025 football team went unanswered last Saturday as the Mountaineers rolled to a 45-3 victory against Robert Morris.
Regardless of the outcome, the Mountaineers figure to discover much more about themselves in a Week 2 matchup at Ohio. Kickoff is 4 p.m. for the contest at Peden Stadium, which can be seen nationally on ESPN+.

Two pedestrians hospitalized in separate Kanawha County

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. — Two people were taken to the hospital after being struck by vehicles minutes apart on Friday night.
Dispatchers received a call for the first incident just after 9:20 p.m. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office says a man and a child were walking along Swans Lane and Winfield Road in West Side. One of the two was taken to CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital. The vehicle involved stayed on the scene.

Huntington holds off late Martinsburg rally, 22-20

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — In the sixth meeting between Class AAAA powers Huntington and Martinsburg over the last five years, the Highlanders mulched a sizable portion of the fourth quarter clock and batted down a Hail Mary pass as time expired to defeat the Bulldogs, 22-20.
Huntington (1-1) avenged a one-point loss to the Bulldogs (0-2) in the state semifinal round last December.

Charleston added to Ascend WV program

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s capital city has been selected as the sixth location for the remote work program, Ascend West Virginia.
Ascend WV was founded by Marshall University President Brad Smith and his wife Alys Smith in October 2021 within West Virginia University Outdoor Economic Collaborative. The program aims to attract those outside of the state to live and work in West Virginia.

Powerball at estimated $1.8 billion jackpot for Saturday night

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Lottery Acting Director David Bradley says the jackpot for Saturday night’s Powerball jackpot has grown to an estimated $1.8 billion, the second largest jackpot in Powerball history.
