Carpenter enjoying the daily grind of life as a manager in AAA baseball

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — David Carpenter built his game at East Fairmont High School and West Virginia University to ultimately reach the highest level of baseball in 2011. That’s the year when Carpenter broke into big leagues with the Houston Astros. He would go on to pitch in 222 Major League Baseball games over six seasons.

Summertime temperatures arrive with the first day of summer

Morrisey makes formal request for federal disaster assistance following deadly flooding

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey has requested President Donald Trump make a Major Disaster Declaration and an Emergency Declaration in Ohio and Marion counties in connection with deadly flash flooding from last weekend.

Weekend even to benefit 75 Scholarship Fund at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –– An event this weekend is aimed at raising money to continue the legacy of those who died in the 1975 Marshall Team Plane crash. For a second year the Fire and Iron Station 29 of the Ceredo and Kenova Fire Departments will sponsor the fundraising ride to benefit the 75 Legacy Scholarship Fund.
“This is the second year that we’ve done it and this year we’ve moved it to the Memorial Fountain,” said Leslie Deese Garvis, President of the Marshall 75 Alumni Chapter.

State Culture Center celebrates West Virginia Day

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –What better way to celebrate West Virginia Day than at the state’s Capitol.
New West Virginia Historic Figure Exhibit
That’s what many locals and residents came out to do on Friday as the state’s Culture Center celebrated West Virginia’s 162nd birthday. West Virginia became a state on June 20th, 1863, after the succession of several northwestern counties of Virginia during the American Civil War.

Sheriff: Looting a problem in Ohio County flood zone

WHEELING, W.Va. — Looting is a problem in the flooded out area of Ohio County.
Ohio County Sheriff Nelson Croft said the devastating flood that occurred along Big Wheeling Creek and feeder streams and creeks last Saturday night has left houses and storage units exposed. He said some are seeing it as an opportunity.

West Virginia hospital organizations are expressing deep concern about the potential effects of the “Big Beautiful Bill” under consideration in the U.S. Senate.

Counties hit in Feb. 15 flood approved for higher reimbursement rate from FEMA

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state and 10 West Virginia counties are going to be reimbursed at a higher rate for public money spent in response to the Feb. 15 flood in southern West Virginia.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Friday that his request for a cost share adjustment with FEMA was approved by the Trump White House.
The Public Assistance reimbursement will go to 90 percent from the original 75 percent level.
