Arley Junior Godfrey, age 75, of Rock Cave died on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Holbrook Healthcare Center in Buckhannon. He was born in Buckhannon on September 2, 1949, a son of the late Arley Lane and Velma Smith Godfrey. Doug Skaff, a prominent Charleston businessman and former member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, died Tuesday in a car crash on Interstate 79 in Lewis County, according to multiple state officials.
Skaff, 48, of South Charleston, was traveling southbound between the Jane Lew and Weston exits when the crash occurred around 4:15 p.m., officials said.

West Virginians Contribute Less Than 1 Percent to Senator Capito’s $2.6M Campaign Fund

WASHINGTON — Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) has raised nearly $2.7 million since her last election in 2020 — but just a fraction of that total came from donors in her home state.
Federal Election Commission data shows Capito’s campaign has taken in $2,689,694.60 since 2020. Of that, only $16,704.22 came from West Virginia-based sources — a mere 0.62% of her total fundraising. The remaining 99.38% came from out-of-state donors.

Core Natural Resources Issues Mass Layoff Notices to 200 Coal Miners in Wyoming County

ITMANN — Core Natural Resources has issued Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices to approximately 200 coal miners in southern West Virginia, the company confirmed Tuesday.
The layoffs are expected to take place by Aug. 1 at the Itmann No. 5 Mine and the Itmann Coal Preparation Plant in Wyoming County.
