Horoscope

The last full moon of the year earned its name from the long, cold nights and the deepening of winter’s stillness in the Northern Hemisphere. This will be the supermoon that illuminates the crystalline frost that shimmers in the serene silences of the landscape and of the mind. Even in the frost, love glows blue and gives enough light to see by.

Escalating America’s long war on drugs

Since President Richard Nixon declared a “War on Drugs” in 1971, federal, state and local governments have spent an estimated $1 trillion fighting it — and losing. Donald Trump now seems fully engaged in that futile conflict, adding his own twisted brand of violence.
It’s not enough to bomb boats “suspected” of ferrying drugs to the United States. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the military, after the initial strike, to “kill” survivors clinging to life rafts on the waters below.

Hints From Heloise

Reusing cards as placemats
Dear Heloise: I have a hint for reusing Christmas cards. When my children were young, we would take the Christmas cards that we had received, and they would cut out circles using a wide-mouthed canning ring. Then we would put them on clear contact paper and cut them to the size of a placemat (overlapping them so that there was no space showing). Then we put on another layer of contact paper.
We could enjoy the beautiful cards every time we used them. We did the same

Hints From Heloise

Making the perfect cup of java
Dear Heloise: When the coffee can is close to empty, I turn the can upside down over a large bowl and hit the bottom and sides of the can. I can rotate it while hitting the sides until it looks clear of most of the grounds. Then I use a soft brush inside the can to collect whatever grounds are still remaining.
If the can is to be reused, it can then be wiped clean. I also make coffee in an electric 12-cup percolator that was purchased online. My husband and I have
