CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Republican Party is looking to fill the opening in the seventh Senatorial District that came open when Mike Stuart resigned.

The GOP will take applications through 5 p.m. Wednesday. At that point, the Senatorial Vacancy Committee will meet to look over applications and resumes and compile a list of applicants

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. — A man is dead, and another person is injured after a single-vehicle accident on Sunday in Jackson County.
Information first released Tuesday by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said that David Scott Tackett, 45, of Ripley, died at the scene. The wreck was reported on WV Rt. 2 and Point Pleasant Road at around 5 o’clock Sunday morning.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University Police said investigators have identified three suspects in a series of burglaries near the downtown campus in Morgantown.
The burglaries were reported Tuesday at 692 North High St. and 216 Belmar Ave. The crimes prompted WVU Police to issue a campus warning.
“The reports came hours after the alleged crimes, and there are indications the buildings were accessed through unsecured doors or windows,” a news release said.
