MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — It started in a townhouse after their graduation from West Virginia University and is now a global sustainability software company. Iconic Air has been acquired by Tokyo-based Asuene, Inc. to lead their Asuene USA operation.
On WAJR’s “Talk of the Town,” Iconic Air co-founder and CEO James Carnes reflected back on their beginnings at Iconic EDU, a STEM education platform, to being included in the business incubator on the WVU campus, Vantage Ventures, in Morgantown.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man will stand trial Monday for a four-year-old murder case.
Michael Wayne Smith is accused of murdering Cheyenne Johnson, of Jackson County, in 2021 and disposing her body in a well. He faces a number of charges, which include first-degree murder and concealment of a dead body.
Smith most recently appeared before Kanawha County Circuit Judge Kenneth Ballard on October 16 for a motions hearing.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Customers of Mountaineer Gas Company will see an interim increase in their monthly bills beginning November 1.
Vice President of Gas Supply and Technical Services Thomas Westfall said gas utilities are required by the state Public Service Commission to submit a filing on or before August 1 to adjust their purchased gas cost rates. These rates will apply for the next year, from November through October 2026.

BERKELEY SPRINGS. W.Va. — Morgan County Schools set a goal to have fewer than 15 percent of students chronically absent. No school has hit it in the first quarter.
A student is considered chronically absent if they miss more than 10% of the school year.
So far in the district as a whole, there has been a 17.11 percent rate of chronic absenteeism during the first nine weeks or quarter of school

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Communities in Schools virtual pantries, which serve public school students across West Virginia, will be receiving a donation of $1 million to better the operations.
The donations come from Shawn and Angela Ball of L&S Toyota in Beckley, the Pack Family Foundation and the Wing 2 Wing Foundation are putting up the funds that will ensure each public school in the state will receive $1,500 to provide food, clothing and hygiene products for students.
