MASON COUNTY, W.Va. –State police are investigating after a man dies following suspected hit-and-run in Mason County.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. Tuesday evening in the 700 block of Wood School Road. An adult male was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mason County’s WVSP detachment say they may have a suspect vehicle but are continuing to work through leads.
No other information was released.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –A University of Charleston senior and Hurricane native has been named a finalist for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.

Maliah McCann-Coles was announced as a finalist on Wednesday. The scholarship, established in 1902, is a fully funded postgraduate award that gives exceptional students from around the world the opportunity to pursue full-time study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

SPENCER, W.Va. — Two rural schools in Roane County are on the chopping block due to funding issues and a continually decreasing enrollment.
The Roane County Board of Education is set to vote Thursday on a proposed plan that would close Geary Elementary/Middle School and Walton Elementary/Middle School. If approved, students would be merged into Spencer Elementary/Middle School and pre-K students would be taught in an early education center at Roane County High School.
