Longtime educator Sullivan reflects ahead of retirement from state board

CHARLESTON, W.Va – Longtime West Virginia Board of Education member Debra Sullivan’s time on the board is finished, as she took part in her final meeting before retirement on Wednesday.

Sullivan reflected on her time with the board and said her convictions never changed.
“When I was appointed to this board in 2017, I knew what an important responsibility it would be, and I’ve never taken that responsibility lightly,” she said.

Child struck by a vehicle in Logan County

LOGAN, W.Va. — A child is injured after being struck by a vehicle this morning.
Logan County Sheriff P.D. Clemens confirmed for MetroNews a child was struck by a vehicle at the mouth of Whitman Creek Road this morning.
Witnesses indicate the child was there to catch the school bus.
The child was taken to the hospital, condition unknown and deputies continue their investigation.

Teen dead in tragic shooting in Kanawha County

GLASGOW, W.Va. — A tragic shooting has claimed the life of a 19-year old man in Kanawha County.
The incident happened early this morning at a home in Glasgow. Deputies were dispatched to the scene at 12:13 a.m. Witnesses tell Kanawha County deputies the victim thought the gun was unloaded, put it to his head and pulled the trigger. It turned out the gun was loaded and the young man was killed instantly.
The Sheriff’s Department continues the investigation, but deputies say all indications so far

With Henderson ruled out, Mountaineers will have new starting quarterback at No. 23 BYU

For the third time in as many games, West Virginia will have a new starting quarterback come 10:30 p.m. Friday when the Mountaineers play at No. 23 BYU.
In an update to the Big 12 Conference player availability report Wednesday night, the Mountaineers ruled out Jaylen Henderson, the starting signal-caller in last week’s 48-14 home loss to Utah.
Henderson, a Texas A&M transfer, played throughout the first half against the Utes before being replaced by redshirt freshman Khalil Wilkins.

Small aircraft makes emergency landing in Monongalia County

MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va. — Emergency responders in Monongalia County mobilized around the western part of the county Wednesday afternoon after a small aircraft made an emergency landing just south of Core.
MECCA 911 confirmed that the small aircraft landed just before 3:00 p.m. near the area of Little Indian Creek Road and Hawkins Run Road. The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department was confirmed to have responded to the scene as well as the River Road Volunteer Fire Department.

Monongalia County Schools placed on ‘Code Silver’ alert, arrest made

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department announced a person was taken into custody after county schools were placed on a ‘Code Silver’ alert Wednesday.
According to a news release, the county sheriff’s department was made aware of an individual making terroristic threats at around 11:30 a.m., which prompted an immediate investigation.
