Hardesty calls for changes to school aid formula as legislative session begins

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – With the 2026 regular legislative session underway, West Virginia Superintendent of Schools Paul Hardesty wants lawmakers to do something about the state’s school aid formula.

December revenue falls short, year-to-date collections strong

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Department of Revenue Deputy Secretary Mark Muchow gave lawmakers a brief presentation Tuesday on December’s general revenue.

State lawmakers hear progress report on Third Grade Success Act ahead of regular session

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –West Virginia Department of Education Legislative and Policy Officer Drew McClanahan told lawmakers Tuesday that the Third Grade Success Act has proven effective three years after its passage.

State Supreme Court asking for $1.4 million to continue funding Family Treatment Court

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Officials with the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia want to keep re-uniting families in West Virginia that have previously been affected by substance abuse.

Supreme Court justices hear arguments about West Virginia’s law on transgender athletes

The nine justices of the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments about a West Virginia law forbidding the participation of transgender athletes on school sports teams.
The justices heard almost an hour and a half of arguments about West Virginia vs. B.P.J., which represents the initials of a young transgender athlete. As with most appeals cases, this was a back-and-forth with justices asking questions one after another on finer points of law, with lawyers defending their positions.

Beckley pastor appointed to WV House of Delegates

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Governor Patrick Morrisey announced an appointment to the West Virginia House of Delegates Tuesday that will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Brandon Steele.
Morrisey appointed John K. Jordan to represent the 42nd district.
Jordan earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of The Cumberlands and a Master of Science in Church Leadership from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

Lawmakers raise many questions about MARL Line with developers and PJM
