Terre Alta man accused of assaulting his mother and police

TERRE ALTA, W.Va. –– A Preston County man faces multiple charges after allegedly fighting with his mother and police during.
State police responded after receiving a report from a woman saying her son was trying to kill her.
The alleged victim told police she said she didn’t know where her son, Shane Sager, 35, of Terra Alta, was because she had been choked her until she passed out in the yard of her home.
Troopers then went to Sager’s home to find what happened, but he refused to cooperate or

Health officials begin response following Monongalia County rabies case

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Monongalia County Health Department has confirmed rabies in a raccoon that was caught in a trap in the New Hill Community off Route 7 near the Meadow Ponds development Thursday.

Rabies is a viral disease found only in mammals that attacks the brain and nervous system and can cause death. Mammals, including people, can be infected via the saliva of a rabid animal through a bite or a scratch.

Lincoln County couple plead in child neglect case

HAMLIN, W.Va. — A Lincoln County couple has copped a plea agreement in connection with the death of one child and the near death of another.
Jack Parsons Jr. and Tara Adkins this week entered guilty pleas to one count of child neglect resulting in death and a second count of child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury. State ends fiscal year with a nest egg and gets solid start to new fiscal year

West Virginia ended the last fiscal year with a healthy budget surplus and started the new fiscal year with a decent cushion.
State officials made announcements about both fiscal milemarkers on Friday.
The State of West Virginia closed fiscal 2025 with a total year-end surplus of $338.5 million, according to an announcement by the Morrisey administration.
The administration described an effort toward responsible fiscal management to contribute to the state’s financial performance.

Verdunville Elementary to close indefinitely due to structural issues

VERDUNVILLE, W.Va. — The students of Verdunville Elementary School in Logan County will have to get accustomed to a new atmosphere this fall.
In a Thursday evening meeting, Logan County Schools Superintendent George Aulenbacher recommended that Verdunville close down indefinitely because damage the building sustained after an April rockslide.
A recent evaluation showed that heavy rains from April 8 led to the rockslide, which closed the school through spring break.

Local teacher thankful tsunami didn’t hit Hawaii island where he was vacationing

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. –A Putnam County teacher says he’s thankful he didn’t experience a major tsunami during his stay in Hawaii.
Seth Skiles, a teacher at Rock Branch Elementary and the 2025 Teacher of the Year award winner, is currently vacationing on Oahu, just outside Honolulu.
He said that on Tuesday while he was headed to the North Shore to watch surfers, warnings began coming through on the radio and phones that a tsunami was expected to hit the island and urging them to move to higher
