GW’s Noah Lewis details commitment to Wright State

Noah Lewis enjoyed a standout junior season at George Washington, helping lead the Patriots to a Class AAAA runner-up finish while earning first-team all-state and Mountain State Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors in the process.
Before Lewis attempts to build on those feats and cap his career in grand fashion, the 6-foot-6 forward settled on his future home after high school by committing to continue his hardwood career at Wright State.

Marshall starts first preseason camp under guidance of Gibson

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The preliminaries are out of the way. Now it’s time for new coach Tony Gibson and the new-look Marshall football team to go to work.
Gibson met with media Friday to talk about the state of Thundering Herd going into camp, which began Saturday and extends until school starts in two-plus weeks.
“First day of fall camp, everybody is excited,” Gibson said. “That day-one energy. The goal for us is to sustain that each day until August 30 and beyond.”

WV law enforcement to target motorists who fail to stop at red lights or stop signs

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Law enforcement officers are set to begin targeting motorists who fail to stop at red lights and stop signs as part of a high-visibility enforcement campaign.
The “Target Red” enforcement mobilization, which falls under the West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP), runs through August 15. Launched in Beckley in 2008, the program has successfully reduced incidents by 60% since its inception.

Mountaineer Gas submits rate increase adjustment to PSC

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Mountaineer Gas Company has submitted filings with the Public Service Commission of West Virginia that will affect customers’ bills.
These filings were made July 31. They consist of adjustments made to Purchased Gas Cost Rates and to Infrastructure Replacement and Expansion Program (IREP) rates.  The latter support ongoing infrastructure investments to provide safe, reliable service.

Alleged victim in sheriff’s deputy sexual assault released on home confinement

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by an on-duty Kanawha County sheriff’s deputy this week has been released on home confinement in her criminal case.
The alleged victim was an inmate at the South Central Regional Jail. A judge agreed Friday to her home confinement request. She told the judge she was traumatized by what had happened.

West Virginia retailers hoping for big sales tax holiday weekend

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia retailers are hoping for a big weekend with the annual Sales Tax Holiday.

Announced coal layoffs take effect this weekend

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Close to 500 coal miners in southern West Virginia are working their final shifts headed into the weekend. Back in June Beckley based coal company Civil LLC announced plans to lay off 279 miners at nine of its southern West Virginia mining operations. Those layoffs take effect Saturday.
