Nebraska Congressman Mike Flood (R)  held a town hall meeting Monday night in Lincoln – almost immediately, it turned contentious.
Within seconds of beginning his remarks, Flood was met with boos. Attendees shouted “liar” and chanted “tax the rich.” The event was repeatedly interrupted by emotional appeals from constituents, including veterans and social workers.
At the center of the debate: the One Big Beautiful Bill.

Cabell County Schools BOE approves cellphone policy resolution ahead of upcoming school year

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. –The Cabell County Schools Board of Education has approved a resolution to align its existing cellphone policy with the new law banning cellphones in classrooms.
The Board of Education approved the resolution during its meeting Tuesday afternoon, bringing its policy into compliance with House Bill 2003, which was passed during the legislative session and went into effect on July 9.

Putnam County vet ordered to pay maximum civil penalties for being unable to account for high dosages of controlled substances

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –A Putnam County veterinarian was ordered to pay the maximum civil penalties because she was unable to account for over nine thousand dosages units of oxycodone, hydrocodone, and other controlled substances.
Clara Ann Mason, 64, of Winfield, was ordered to pay $956,709 dollars by U.S. District Judge Robert C. Chambers Monday. According to a release, the court found that Mason had ordered thousands of doses of opioids and other drugs and failed to keep these drugs secured,

‘Moments of softness’ draw ire of Rodriguez, but coach expresses belief in team to avoid repeating mistakes

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Tuesday marked West Virginia’s first fully-padded and contact practice of preseason camp.
The Mountaineers didn’t make it the allotted time head coach Rich Rodriguez intended for.
“I probably would have gone a little bit longer,” Rodriguez said, “but I got mad at something, made them run for 10-15 minutes and ended practice.”

Marshall BOG approves resolution in support of new non-voting members

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Marshall University Board of Governors approved a resolution Tuesday highlighting the importance of what are now non-voting members of the BOG.

Man who shot at Morgan County deputies waives charges to grand jury

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — A man charged with shooting at Morgan County sheriff’s deputies last week after allegedly breaking into his ex-wife’s home waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday in Morgan County Magistrate Court.

Research reveals elk from different sources are breeding in southern W.Va.

LOGAN, W.Va. — Observers on the Tomblin Wildlife Management area in southern West Virginia have noticed a few elk calves on the landscape.
