Cancer survivors enjoy evening tea party at CAMC Cancer Center

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Several cancer survivors and those undergoing treatment were treated with a relaxing social event Tuesday evening at the CAMC Cancer Center.

CPD Sgt. urges citizens to be careful if they receive calls from people asking for money to avoid being arrested

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Assistant Public Services Division commander with the Charleston Police Department Sgt. Travis Bailes is warning citizens to be extra cautious when receiving calls from people demanding money over the phone.
Bailes was on MetroNews Midday to talk about recent scammers calling citizens pretending to be an officer with the Charleston Police Department, claiming that the citizen has outstanding warrants out for their arrests or that they have missed jury duty.

2025 WVSSAC H.S. Baseball Regional Seeds

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Seeds are set for the WVSSAC Regional Baseball Tournaments. Double-elimination play may begin on Monday, May 12.
In a new format this year, sectional play has been eliminated. Similar to the recently adopted format in basketball, all teams within a region will be seeded by coaches and split into two brackets. Lawyers for federal government say lawsuit over black lung screening program should be tossed out

Attorneys for the federal government say a lawsuit over the anticipated dismantling of black lung screening through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in Morgantown should not go forward because it is not yet clear whether the closure will actually take place.
The federal lawyers also contend the plaintiff in the case lacks standing and that the United States government has immunity from these kinds of lawsuits over the staffing and mission of its agencies.

Students sign on to West Virginia Toyota’s 4T Academy program for its fourth year

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Dozens of upper-class high school students from across the region are the newest inductees in the advanced manufacturing work-based learning program for Toyota.
Toyota West Virginia recognized the newest 4T Academy class during a ceremony and signing event held at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
It’s the academy’s fourth year, and high school students across Kanawha, Mason, and Putnam counties take part in the program.

Huntington police release names of stabbing victims

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Police have released the names of the Huntington man and woman found dead in their home Saturday.
Huntington Police Chief Phil Watkins said married couple Brandon Kimball, 41, and Teresa Kimball, 40, were found dead in theri home on 19th Street Saturday.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that both individuals died from knife wounds sustained during a domestic altercation,” Watkins said. “The case remains under active investigation by Huntington Police Department detectives

Southern Gospel legend Squire Parsons dead at 77

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Southern Gospel Music icon, West Virginia native, Squire Parsons died of a heart attack Monday. He was 77.
Parsons grew up in the Roane County community of Newton. He went to Spencer High School and then on to West Virginia Tech where he graduated with a degree in music in 1970.

Wayne Ryan named Executive Director of the WVSSAC

The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission didn’t have to go far to find its next Executive Director.
Wayne Ryan, who’s been with West Virginia’s governing body for high school athletics since the summer of 2016, has been named the replacement to David Price as WVSSAC Executive Director.
Ryan spent two-plus decades heavily involved with high school athletics at Summers County, where he served as assistant principal, athletic director, girls basketball coach and baseball coach.

West Virginia small business owners struggle to find workers, NFIB report shows

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Small businesses in West Virginia continue to struggle to find workers as labor shortages persist, according to the the latest job report from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
The NFIB’s April report revealed that 34% of small business owners had job openings that they could not fill, the percentage is down from March but still the lowest since January 2021.

Marshall University official talks student financial aid amid defaulted federal student loan repayment starting again

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Those who have graduated college and have loans in default will now have to begin repayment again after the five-year pause ended Monday, May 5th.
