GW improves to 15-0 with 65-45 win over Parkersburg South

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — With 11 wins by double figures in their first 15 games of the season, the George Washington Patriots have firmly established themselves as Class AAAA title contenders as the state’s only remaining undefeated team in the largest classification. Mayle, Fields selected as head coaches for the North-South Football Game

Philip Barbour head coach Nick Mayle
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Philip Barbour head coach Nick Mayle and Herbert Hoover head coach Joey Fields have been picked to lead squads in the 2026 North-South Football Classic. The annual contest with all-star rosters comprised of graduating seniors will be played at South Charleston High School on Saturday, June 20. Kickoff is set for noon.
Mayle will lead the North Bears and Fields will guide the South Cardinals.

Miner injured underground at Marshall County mine

MARHSALL COUNTY, W.Va. –A mine worker is in the hospital after being injured underground at the Marshall County Mine Cameron Portal.
The incident was reported around 3:43 p.m. According to Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Tom Hart the worker was injured from the waist down and that crews were moving a piece of equipment, when the worker became pinned.
The worker reportedly suffered injuries to the pelvic and abdominal areas. The worker was life flighted to Ruby Memorial

Court system asks for a slight budget increase, with biggest bump to family treatment court system

West Virginia’s court system proposes only a slight budget increase for the coming fiscal year, .81%, with the largest portion of the increase going toward bolstering the family treatment court system.
Chief Justice Haley Bunn presented the budget proposal Tuesday afternoon to the Senate Finance Committee, saying lawmakers and legal officials share a goal of “the best bang for the taxpayer dollar.”
Last year, the court system requested $173,114,659.

Day of Hope celebrated at state Capitol

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Jobs & Hope West Virginia was on full display Tuesday in West Virginia’s capitol.
Graduates and sponsors of the legislatively funded program set up booths and tables for lawmakers to stop at in between committee meetings and floor sessions.
Jobs & Hope, which was started by then-Governor Jim Justice in 2019, is set up to extend help to those in the state struggling with addiction and other barriers to find and maintain a job.

CAMC adds Naloxone boxes to three hospitals

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia residents can now be better equipped to save a life.
Vandalia Health CAMC has installed public access Naloxone boxes at CAMC Memorial, CAMC Women and Children’s and CAMC Teays Valley hospitals. Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses.
The Naloxone boxes look similar to newspaper boxes and residents don’t need a key or a staff member to help.

After Corridor-H, what’s the next big road project in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The long standing Corridor-H highway project is relatively near an end and the West Virginia Department of Transportation is starting to look at what should be the next priority project in the Mountain State.

Wayne County Sheriff says culprits in water emergency face stiff charges

WAYNE, W.Va. — Wayne County Sheriff Eddie Bradshaw said his deputies are working to find the culprits who left the residents in Wayne in a mess this week.
Vandals broke into a mine site and damaged an Appalachian Power substation on the mine property. The damage included spilling close to 500 gallons of oil which wound up in nearby Camp Creek. Although there’s been no tests which revealed the town of Wayne’s water supply was impacted, city officials have advised customers to not use the water

Senate will take a more deliberative approach to emergency schools fund bill

The House of Delegates moved fast to pass bills that would establish an emergency fund for distressed county school boards while appropriating $8 million, in response to a fiscal crisis in Hancock County.
While the House took that up and got it done in one day, the Senate will take a more deliberative approach.
Senators said the two bills will be assigned to the finance and education committees to more thoroughly examine the grounding of the emergency fund.

House committees advance bills dealing with human smuggling, industrial access roads

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Bills dealing with the smuggling of illegals and increased funds for industrial site access roads are moving on to the full House of Delegates after gaining approval in House committees Tuesday morning.
