National Weather Service posts winter storm watch with ‘growing confidence’ of significant winter storm

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There’s now a winter storm watch posted for West Virginia associated with the storm everyone is talking about.
The Winter Storm Watch begins Saturday morning. (NWS image)
The National Weather Service issued the watch Wednesday afternoon for a the storm that’s expected to arrive this weekend, according to NWS Meteorologist Joe Curtis.
“There’s increasing potential for a significant winter storm this weekend,” Curtis told MetroNews.

Settlement finalized in ‘Babydog’ mural lawsuit, public meeting on the horizon

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A settlement is nearly complete in the lawsuit regarding a mural inside the state capitol that appears to depict US Senator Jim Justice’s pet.
Kanawha County Circuit Judge Dave Hardy held a final hearing on Wednesday to address the settlement agreement in the suit against the West Virginia Capitol Building Commission that alleges the mural, which appears to show Justice’s dog “Babydog” sitting amid state landmarks, was approved without adequate public comment or oversight.

WVU football to play eight straight before bye week in 2026

West Virginia’s 2026 football schedule does not require the Mountaineers to play away from home in consecutive weeks, but has the team playing eight straight weeks before its lone bye, as released Wednesday by the Big 12 Conference.

Kroger announces Kroger Marketplace in South Charleston will open in June

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kroger has announced it will open the Kroger Marketplace at Park Place in South Charleston in early June.
At 122,000 square feet, the Marketplace will be the largest Kroger in West Virginia.

Taylor County grand jury indicts stepmother in child murder case less than a week after charges filed

GRAFTON, W.Va. — A Taylor County grand jury has indicted a Grafton woman for allegedly allowing an 11-year-old girl to die in her care.

Shannon Robinson, 51, was indicted on Tuesday for one count of murder of a child by a guardian or custodian for the failure to supply the necessities of life after an investigation by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office that began back in February 2025.
The indictment comes less than a week after Robinson’s arrest.

Six charged with trespassing after ICE-related protests in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Six people face trespassing charges after a pair of anti-ICE protests in Morgantown.

The arrests came near the Donley Street regional office of U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito Tuesday afternoon after the protesters refused to move. The second protest was a march from the WVU campus into downtown Morgantown.
