FestivALL Charleston relocates to new office space ahead of upcoming five-day event

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — FestivALL Charleston now has a new headquarters to work out of before the kick-off to their main five-day event in a couple of weeks from now.
FestivALL staff joined those with the Charleston Area Alliance Tuesday afternoon to cut the ribbon on their new headquarters.
For the time being, they will be operating out of the upstairs offices at Charleston Area Alliance on Smith Street in downtown Charleston as their newest Business Hub & Incubator program tenant.

Kanawha County Commissioner proposing some funds go toward helping with county’s low cost spay and neuter program

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Commissioner Lance Wheeler is proposing $10,000 dollars go toward helping with low-cost spay and neuter operations in an effort to alleviate the influx of stray animals in the community.
Recently the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association has announced that the adjacent Fix Charleston Clinic will have to scale back its services due to the loss of one of its lead veterinarians.

Judge’s order would reverse job cuts that endangered black lung screening programs

U.S. District Judge Irene Berger has granted a preliminary injunction that would reverse federally-ordered job cuts endangering legally-required black lung screening.

Flash flooding in Keyser; flash flood warnings issued for southern coalfield counties

KEYSER, W.Va. — Heavy rain has caused flash flooding in Keyser and surrounding areas in Mineral County.
“New Creek has come out of its banks in various locations and we have evacuated some of the streets downtown including Water Street, Harley O. Staggers Drive and a portion of Stony Run,” Mineral County OES Director Luke McKenzie told MetroNews Tuesday afternoon.

Morrisey touts legislation to put more police in schools

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Surrounded by police and elementary school students, Governor Patrick Morrisey ceremonially put his pen to legislation which will put more officers in the halls of West Virginia schools in the years to come.
The Governor signed House Bill 2802 Tuesday afternoon at Parkersburg’s Gihon Elementary School. The measure includes certain provisions which allow for police officers to obtain some of their required in-service training annually in a school setting.

School boards start exploring how to comply with state law vs executive order on vaccinations

West Virginia school systems are starting to assess how they will deal with Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s directive to allow religious exemptions to vaccination requirements.
The state Board of Education, on its agenda for a 10 a.m. Wednesday meeting, has listed a discussion of religious exemptions from compulsory school vaccination requirements. It’s possible that board members will enter executive session for that discussion because it’s a legal matter.

Chain Reaction Crash in Berkeley County Ties Up I-81 Northbound for Hours Tuesday

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. — A multi-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning halted traffic on the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 for hours.

Worker killed at Marshall County plant

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — A man is dead after a high pressure water line ruptured while he was working at a Marshall County chemical plant.
According to Sheriff Mike Dougherty the victim was Steven Chambers, 44, of Cameron, W.Va. He was on a ladder performing maintenance on a high pressure water line at the Westlake Chemical Plant in Proctor. According to a press release from the sheriff, the high pressure line exploded and knocked him off the ladder 10 to 20 feet off the ground.
