Wayne County man sentenced to home confinement after DUI crash claims best friend’s life

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Wayne County man will be on home confinement for at least the next three years after being sentenced in a DUI with death case.

Ryan Jones, 28, pleaded guilty in June to being drunk when he wrecked his truck in Sissonville in October 2023 killing his best friend, passenger, Dusty Myers, 26.
Kanawha County Circuit Judge Kenneth Ballard sentenced Jones to home confinement Thursday after hearing from a number of people including Myers’ family who supported a home

State looking forward to vibrant fall foliage season

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Department of Tourism is predicting a vibrant fall foliage season.
The department released its fall foliage projection map.
State Forester Jeremy Jones said this summer weather mix should bring out bright colors.

Morrisey says state still had nursing homes because “politicians have been afraid to act”

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey is asking state residents not to pre-judge this week’s announced sale of four state-owned long-term care nursing homes.

Timberline Mountain takes legal action to eliminate EMS fee

DAVIS, W.Va. — Tucker County-based Timberline Mountain has filed a lawsuit against the newly-enacted special EMS fee in Tucker County.
Resort officials said the lawsuit was filed Thursday in federal court challenging the two percent special emergency ambulance fee imposed on recreation and entertainment businesses passed by the Tucker County Commission that took effect Jan. 1.

Morrisey announces nearly $5 million in water/sewage grants

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Governor Patrick Morrisey was in Fairmont Thursday to announce that $4.96 million has been awarded to water projects across West Virginia.
The West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council (IJDC) has awarded $3.4 million in funds for four projects, and another $1.56 grant is coming from the state DEP Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
