Shady Spring tops Liberty for second win of the season

GLEN DANIEL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Class AAA Shady Spring Tigers picked up a solid road victory Friday night, defeating the Class AA Liberty Raiders 40-20.
The Tigers’ offense found its rhythm early and maintained control throughout the game, earning their second win of the season and improving to 2-5 overall.

Wildcats roll past Bland County for fifth win of the season

BLAND COUNTY, VA (LOOTPRESS) – The Class A No. 8 Meadow Bridge Wildcats continued their strong season Friday night with a convincing 38-14 road victory over the Bland County Bears.
The Wildcats controlled the game on both sides of the ball, building an early lead and maintaining it throughout the contest.

Vandalism reported at newly installed Oak Hill City Park playground

OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – City officials are asking for the public’s help after new playground equipment at Oak Hill City Park was vandalized less than a day after it was installed.
According to the Oak Hill Parks and Recreation Department, the damage occurred overnight and was discovered early Friday morning.

Public hearings scheduled for rate increases for Black Diamond Customers

CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Two public comment hearings and another to take evidence are scheduled in October into a 6.97 percent rate increase sought by Black Diamond Power Co.
The Public Service Commission of West Virginia scheduled public comment hearings for 5:30 p.m. October 14 at the Clay County Circuit Courtroom in the Clay County Courthouse, 246 Main St., Clay; and 5:30 p.m. October 21 at Mullens City Hall, 316 Moran Ave., Mullens.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Wyoming County

WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man was arrested in Wyoming County after deputies said they found suspected fentanyl during a traffic stop earlier this week.
According to a criminal complaint, a deputy was traveling on Stephenson Basin Mountain on October 6, 2025, when he got behind a black SUV with a North Carolina temporary registration.

Sister Jean, beloved Loyola basketball chaplain and fan, dies at 106

CHICAGO, IL (LOOTPRESS) – Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, the spirited nun who became a national sensation as the chaplain and biggest supporter of Loyola University Chicago’s men’s basketball team, died Thursday at the age of 106.

Woman dies after riding Haunted Mansion at Disneyland

ANAHEIM, CA (LOOTPRESS) – A woman in her 60s died Monday evening after being found unresponsive following a ride on the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland, according to officials.

Anaheim Fire & Rescue responded to the theme park around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 after receiving reports of an unresponsive guest who had just exited the ride.
