Nearly 300,000 SNAP recipients in West Virginia will go without benefits in November

CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – As of Monday, nearly 300,000 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients in West Virginia will not get their November benefits.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) posted on its website Saturday that November benefits will not go out unless the federal government reopens.

Woman arrested after fatal hit-and-run in Beckley

BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Beckley police have arrested a woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on October 25.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of Robert C. Byrd Drive after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

Wyoming County man charged with child sex trafficking, sexual abuse

WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Wyoming County man is facing charges after he allegedly sexually abused a minor for over a year and trafficked her for sex.
According to Wyoming County Deputies, for over a year, James Elvis Hatfield sexually abused a minor.  The young child was made to do sexual acts on Hatfield and he told her he would buy her stuff.
The victim told investigators where the alleged sexual abuse would occur and detailed what would happened during each encounter.

Blackwater Falls State Park Begins Online Ticket Sales for Sled Run

CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — West Virginia State Parks officials today announced that tickets for the sled run at Blackwater Falls State Park are now available to purchase online.
The quarter-mile sled run, the longest on the East Coast, will open for the winter season on Dec. 18, 2025 and be open, weather permitting, Thursdays through Sundays through March 8, 2026. Tickets sell out often so visitors are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance at

USDA says November SNAP benefits will not be issued

(LOOTPRESS) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Saturday that the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will stop operating if Congress does not act before the federal government shuts down on November 1.
“Senate Democrats have now voted 12 times to not fund the food stamp program,” the USDA website reads. “Bottom line, the well has run dry. At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01.”

One person dead, another injured following ATV crash in West Virginia

WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – The wife of an Ohio firefighter was killed in an accident while on an ATV trip in West Virginia, according to Macedonia, OH Fire Chief Brian Ripley.
Chief Ripley said Lisa Morris, wife of FireMedic Dave Morris of the Macedonia Fire Department, died Friday evening in the crash.

Cunard access road closed after construction site failure

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – UPDATE 10/25/25 10:41 PM: The National Park Service announced Sunday evening that the Cunard access road in New River Gorge National Park and Preserve is closed due to unforeseen safety concerns involving a failure at a construction site.
Officials said the closure begins just beyond the Brooklyn Mine trailhead.
Both the Brooklyn Miner Trail and the Kaymoor Trail will remain open to visitors.

Raleigh County man arrested on multiple charges following domestic incident

RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office arrested William Lytle on October 24, 2025, following a reported domestic disturbance in the Harper Heights area.
