WASHINGTON — A months-long push to shield millions of Americans from steep health-insurance cost increases collapsed Thursday as the Senate rejected two competing proposals to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits before they expire at year’s end.

Woman pleads guilty to participating in West Virginia drug trafficking organization

CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A St. Albans woman has pleaded guilty to participating in a drug trafficking organization responsible for distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine throughout the Charleston area, federal prosecutors announced.
Ashley Dawn Smith, 32, pleaded guilty on October 20, 2025, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.

Treasurer Pack Announces Projected Hope Scholarship Budget Drops Again; $85 Million Savings

CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – State Treasurer Larry Pack, who serves as Chairman of the Hope Scholarship Board, today released a revised maximum projected Hope Scholarship budget for the 2026-2027 school year. The program is estimated to cost $230,144,341, an $85 million savings from the original estimate of $315,013,760. The revised number was submitted to the West Virginia Department of Education today.
