Three admit to roles in drug trafficking ring in West Virginia

MARTINSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Three individuals have pleaded guilty for their involvement in a large-scale drug trafficking organization operating in Berkeley and Jefferson counties, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Juan Carlos Suarez-Lugo, 55, of Martinsburg, and Alexis Alvarado, 38, of Ranson, each admitted to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

False emergency call leads to swatting incident

RANDOLPH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities in Randolph County responded to a serious emergency call on Monday, June 2, 2025, that was later determined to be a false report, also known as “swatting.”
According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in around 2:16 p.m. from a male claiming he had shot his wife and son and had attempted suicide.

Additional coal layoffs announced across southern West Virginia

LOGAN COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Recent layoffs at the Itmann Mine in Wyoming County may be just a part of broader coal industry job cuts across southern West Virginia, according to state filings and company notices.
Core Natural Resources recently issued more than 200 layoff notices to employees at its Itmann Mine, citing market conditions.

Police searching for missing person in West Virginia

GANDEEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia State Police are actively investigating the disappearance of a Ripley woman who was last seen near Gandeeville.
According to authorities, 38-year-old Stacy McMasters was reported missing on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Trooper D.A. Goodnight and Trooper First Class J.M. Mack responded to the report.

Robert Moran of Mount Hope sentenced to prison

FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Robert Lee Moran, 46, of Mount Hope, was sentenced to nine months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for distribution of fentanyl.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on January 29, 2024, Moran distributed approximately 0.857 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant for $100 in Beckley. As part of his guilty plea, Moran admitted to the transaction and to arranging it beforehand.
