Purveyors of Mountain State opinion — me included — have taken to print, airwaves and social media of late to talk about U.S. Senator Jim Justice’s potential run for governor in 2028.
The scuttlebutt — what sailors call rumors — has intensified since Justice wrapped up a deal that brought an end to Omni’s bid to acquire the Greenbrier. That’s only natural, I suppose.
Perhaps a bit more unexpected — or maybe not — is that Washington is taking notice and talking too, including the Club for Growth.

ASHFORD, W.Va. — Layoffs in the coalfields.
Boone County-based Eagle Horizon Resources has posted a WARN notice saying it plans to permanently layoff 71 workers at its coal mining operation near Ashford later this year.
The last day of work is Oct. 11.
No reason for the layoff was given in the posted WARN notice.

The union members hit the picket line near Sissonville in Kanawha County on May 12. Most of the striking workers are drivers who deliver Coors, Miller, and Modello beer to stores and bars across 30 West Virginia counties.

HOLCOMB, W.Va. — A dispute between neighbors left one dead and one jailed in Nicholas County.
State Police were called to the home in the community of Holcomb which is near Richwood around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. According to witnesses Ross Adkins Jr, 31, of Richwood and Nathan Facemire, 44, of Richwood got into an argument which escalated into gunfire.
Troopers says Facemire was fatally shot in the incident. Troopers arrested Adkins and he’s lodged in the Central Regional Jail.
